Dec 29th/07 This is Craig Estell showing off a nice 24lbs Chinook salmon on the Sixes river one of the few fish we got this year in December, the fishing on the elk and Sixes was not good at all the fish numbers were way down, So now we are fishing for steelhead in the Roseburg area, yesterday I ran the N .Umpqua we hooked 3 steelhead and landed two 8 and 9 lbs  and had some other bites that just did not hook up. so looks like it is going to be a good year for winter steelhead, so give us a call and get booked .

Hi Gary, it looks like you will probably get the honors of the last report of the 2007 season. I think your report pretty well sums up the fishing season this past year in most fishing departments. I do greatly appreciate your taking the time to send it my way. As you can see the reports have been pretty thin this month and I took advantage of it and did some catching up on other projects still sitting in the wings. Projections for a much more productive 2008 fishing season are positive. Recent rains have helped raise that water levels and make things a bit more accessible on the steelhead waters so should see more action being reported there over the next few weeks.

What a great day on the Umpqua, we fished above Elkton. The water was in great shape, we managed to keep 3 nice steelhead, one weighed in at 16 lbs. Special thanks to Jim Martin for getting us in the fish.

Hi Scott, great name by the way ;). Thanks for report and the pictures. Looks like Ryan was right, things are shaping up for the Steelhead fishing. Looks like you guys did alright for yourselves, that one is exceptional. I guess you know it goes without saying how much we appreciate the reports from you guy and gals at this time of year. Shaw Chase sent me an email this morning that kind of goes hand in hand with your report so it all worked out pretty good, "Haven't gotten out fishing for awhile. But I thought it might not be a bad idea to remind anglers that as of 01-01-08 you can no longer harvest any native steelhead in the Umpqua system. The 1 per day 5 per year rule is gone for us. Anyway just thought I’d make a quick reminder so no one gets a ticket". Thank you Scott for the report and you Shawn for the heads up on the rule changes. Nothing ruins a fishing trip like a $$$ ticket from the game warden.

Hi Scott. I've noticed that not many people have been sending reports in lately. Winter steelhead are here but in fairly few numbers, can't wait for them to improve. I took a buddy down the coquille yesterday and we got two bucks, one 8 lbs, and one 18lbs, we also had a few other bites but they were very light and quick. Both of the fish we caught were hatchery fish. Bob Cobb came down behind us with a few fish, and had caught a couple other natives. Things will only get better and hopefully get that way soon. Thanks again for the great site.
Ryan Keith

You noticed huh? Yeah it's been pretty darn slow with the fishing reports this month. Peoples live get pretty busy during the holidays and fishing goes by the wayside for a day or two. I surely do appreciate you taking the time to send your report my way. I enjoy visiting the site and reading the reports as much as the next guy. Some days it just gets me out of my head for awhile and enjoy some fishing by osmosis. That is a one beautiful fish you have there.  I think you're right, all the signs look positive for a great fishing season as we enter in to 2008. This year has been a bit of a stinker, but it will help us all appreciate next year that much more. Some exciting things coming up for the site this next year too. If I don't hear from you again before the first of the year Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Hello everybody, this is my first post in a couple of weeks and my last post for 2006, unless a bunch of reports pour in later today. Things have been very quiet this month. All and all fishing in 2006 was less productive than had been the case in more recent years, hopefully 2007 will be a much more active fishing season. I want to take a moment to thank all of our readers and contributors for taking time to send us their reports. This site only "work's" because of you and you're contributions. I hope you will continue to read and contribute reports to us in 2007. Happy New Year!

Be sure to read through last years reports to get a pulse on upcoming fishing action on the Oregon coast. We are going to expand our focus to cover more of the major river systems on the coast and of course reports from the big pond in 2007. Look for a face lift to occur early on this next year.

Hi Scott,
We had to look hard today to find some clean water. We fished the east fork and south fork Coquille. We caught one late in the day on a bait of eggs. Here is Mike N. with his nice hatchery hen. Things will be getting good now that the rains have let up a little.

Hi Doug, I figured with the sun out yesterday some folks would wander out there and see if the fishing had been stirred up any with the recent weather. Sometimes a streak of rough weather can get the party started. I'm betting if things stay calmed down the next day or two, it could really get busy on the river.

Hello Everybody, just a quick note just to let everyone know that we are still here, there have been no fishing reports submitted for the past week, we are at that time of year when allot of us are in various stages of preparations for Christmas and the erratic weather in recent history has been good reason to be off the water as well, high winds, flash floods and all kinds of debris in the river.

The weather forecast this next week calls for warmer days and allot more sunshine than we have seen in a while. It could prove to be a good week for Steelhead and Sturgeon fishing, there might even be few fall salmon out there to be caught as well. Be sure to drop us a line and send us a picture if you do get a chance to get out there and have some success.

Hi Scott,
Went fishing out of Port Orford on 12/3/06. Ocean was great with about three foot swells and no wind chop to speak of. We got our limit of ling cod and a handfull of assorted rockfish. The photo is of our four largest lings, left to right 24#, 30#, 22#, 35#, along with fishin fools Big John, Redfish Mike, Mikey B and myself. Any steelhead reports out there?
Tight Lines.

Hi Chris, thanks for sending us you're report, that is a healthy looking bunch of Cod you guys are holding up there. Goes to show there is still plenty of good fishing to be had out on the ocean during the winter months, when the weather allows for us to get out and back in safely. I haven't had one Steelhead report yet. Lately most of the reports have been related to Sturgeon and Chinook Salmon. I know allot of folks are gearing up for Steelhead and won't be a bit surprised to start getting some reports on them pretty soon.

Hi Scott,
Amy & I fished the Sixes River with Brent Lamm on Sunday, 12/3, hooked two beautiful salmon, one on a quick fish the other on an anchovy.  It was a beautiful day.  Probably our last salmon trip of the year, in another week or two time to start chasing those steelhead.

Rod Lathrop

Hi guys, great picture and a very nice fish. I think you are right about narrowing down on the salmon fishing, but you never know, allot of folks think the run is a little behind schedule this year, but then folks been thinking that all year :).  I see allot of folks are starting back in after the sturgeon and are getting set for the steelhead to show up as well. Plenty of great fishing ahead for all I hope. Thanks for thinking of us and sending in you're report and picture, as always we greatly appreciate the sharing of info.

Hi Scott,
here is my latest fishing report. Fished the Columbia again an Friday and we had 11 customers and they all caught their keepers. We also caught 3 oversize and plenty of smaller sturgeon we threw back. Sturgeon fishing is hot! Talk to you later,
Bob Stockdall  Stockdall's Fishing Guide Service

Hello there Mr. Stockdall, I have to tell you I'm pretty impressed, and I'm sure most of our readers are too. What a day of fishing that must have been to put 11 keepers in the boat and send everyone home happy. I just mentioned the good sturgeon fishing prospects in a reply to another report contributor earlier this morning.  Great job there Bob, I'm sure you're customers appreciated you're hard work and fishing know how.

Hi Scott,
I fished the Sixes on Saturday and the water was in pretty good shape. David in the middle caught this fish and lost another one. His son Eric caught his first salmon ever and they caught it all on video. I fished it again today and the water was low and clear and we never touched a fish. The State police were checking people and they only check 9 fish for about 25 boats. I'm just about ready to start thinking about the Winter steelhead season.

Hey there Doug, nice to wake up to you're fishing report this morning. Looks like the Elk and Sixes is where all the Salmon action, what's left of it for this year anyway. I think you are right, we are quickly approaching the end of this years Salmon action and Winter Steelhead fishing is next up on the calendar. That and Sturgeon fishing, which has been productive throughout 2006. Capturing a kid landing his first salmon on film is a great idea, there is something very special about that whole experience for a kid and even more so for a parent. I know in my early adult life there were allot of concerns that our kids would only read about fishing for Salmon on the Oregon coast. Thanks to some dedicated hard working people who fought to help restore it, there is a good chance my grand children and their children will have that same opportunity.

Hi Scott,
Here’s my report. Rick Eveland and I fished the Sixes Thursday and managed just this one single fish.  We had another takedown that peeled 20 feet of line off but didn’t stick.  Water was just a bit high but the color was great.  I talked to several other guides who had anywhere from 0 to 3 fish in the box. Fish are either very late and/or the numbers are very poor.  I hope just late…

 Larry Mercer

Hello there Larry, thanks for sending us in a report and photo. Things have been kind of quite through November with all all the rain and rough weather. It sounds like while fishing is still not at it's best, they are still landing a few down that way. The salmon fishing number have been pretty poor throughout the year in 2006, I hope the numbers dramatically improve in 2007 for everyone.
